Dr. Quan Chen got his Ph.D. from Institute of Zoology, CAS, and had post-doctoral trainings in Manchester University, UK (1994-1997) and in Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Ohio, USA (1997-2000). He has won the National Outstanding Young Scientist Award, Changjiang Scholarship, Tan Jiazhen award for innovative research in bioscience and National outstanding investigator award. Dr. Chen has served as the Director and associate Director of the State Key Laboratory of Biomembrane and Membrane Biotechnology (2001-2011). He is the executive member of the Chinese Society of Biophysics and Cell Biology, associate director of the Society of Biomembrane and Cell Biology in Chinese Society of Biophysics and vice president of Asia Society of Mitochondrial Research and Medicine. Dr. Chen currently serves as an associate editor of Cell Death Discovery, editor for FEBS Letters, editorial member in Cell Research, JBC and other national journals.
The research in Dr. Chen’s laboratory focuses on mitochondrial biology and cancer stem cells. In particular, he wishes to understand the molecular regulation of mitochondrial apoptosis, the molecular regulation of mitochondrial autophagy and mitochondrial dynamics with aims to understand the molecular mechanism of aging related diseases such as cancers, metabolic disorders and neurodegenerative disorders.
